Open Call for Local Artists and Poets within Zip Codes 90019, 90034 and 90035

From: Pascaline Doucin-Dahlke – Artist Curator
I am a local artist looking to explore the use the four to five neighborhood kiosks on Pico Blvd as a neighborhood public art and poetry exhibition along Pico Blvd. from Redondo to La Cienega for the next 6 months. For the March exhibition, I am looking at two themes: Spring and Women.

Artworks and poems will be printed on 11” x 17” sheets of paper to bring a festive atmosphere on Pico Blvd. that will support the retailers’ and community season spirit and Black History Month. I will print the selected artwork on mat paper upon receipt of a jpeg via email. One artwork or poem per artist/writer will be chosen. 2D Artworks can be either drawing, painting, photography, digital, collage as you wish and must be printable on an 11” x 17” paper with a sufficient resolution so it looks good from a distance. At the end of the exhibition, you may pick up the print.

A few notes:

  • Vivid colors are encouraged to make the work pop out.
  • Intent is to be positive and family friendly artwork.
  • The work will be pinned to a vivid green 24” x 36” painted bulletin board behind a locked clear Plexiglas panel and protected from the weather and/or vandals.

Please have the title, your name and website clearly written within the e-mail you will send as an attachment to the
email: [email protected]. Once selected, I will reach out for additional contact information.

This is a volunteer project with no budget/ financial compensation. This public art exhibition is intended to contribute to the beautification and activation of Pico Blvd and will provide exposure to your art to pedestrians walking along Pico Blvd and the adjacent neighborhoods. We will publicize this within neighborhood council and neighborhood newsletters in the beginning and hope to spread the word in other formats including Nextdoor and Community newspapers like Neighborhood News.
